Medusa on the Moon

$60.00

Original digital collage on Semi-Gloss Photographic paper (2024)

One of the three Gorgons, Medusa was beheaded by the Greek hero Perseus, who then used her head to turn his enemies to stone. Perseus slayed many foes with her head until he gave it to the goddess Athena to place on her shield. From the 8th century on,  depictions of Medusa’s head were used in gorgonians to avert evil from onlookers. This Medusa, a former gorgoneion, has retreated to a state of lunar solitude. Here on the moon, tear-stained stone and cratered surfaces find solace together.
