The Sacred Heart of St. Sebastian
Original digital collage on Semi-Gloss Photographic paper (2024)
Ritually consecrated as a devotional piece to St. Sebastian and Queer/Trans eroticism
St. Sebastian, a Roman military officer and Christian martyr, was known as the patron saint of archers, athletes, and the plague-stricken. Depicted as a lamenting man with his body pierced by many arrows he became a symbol for Queer resistance and gained a particular cult following among gay men. By the 20th century, his iconography became syncretized with unjust persecution and the erotic desire of the Queer community. The Sacred Heart of St. Sebastian is a reimagining of this sublime saint finding ecstasy in his divine form, celebrating Trans bodies and their blessed essence.
